Many people think that radio and TV advertising is no longer cost effective. How wrong they are! It obviously depends on your budget, because the difference in cost between TV and Radio advertising is far apart.

A stranger in the café said to me the other day after we got chatting about my trade;

"I don't see the relevance in having a website for your business" and that..."radio advertising is a total waste of money"!

I asked him what he did for a living. He replied that he was a self-employed ex-pat from the UK, now living in Spain. His business was in construction and he was considering having to move back to the UK because of lack of work. Needless to say, he didn't have a website, and he had never advertised on local radio.

I wasn't sure how a man who had openly admitted that he had virtually no work and was considering running back to the UK for state support, had the experience, or business know-how to simply throw these 2 options to one side without consideration!

In my opinion, a website is an electronic business card and in today's world, is crucial as a part of any business - In fact, without a website, a business is not complete... it's a bit like having a business without a name!

Radio advertising is a matter of choice. Personally, I feel it is the most powerful form of media second only to Television. If you have an advertising budget, then you MUST consider spending money on a decent radio advert production and a good radio advertising plan.

This is an interesting question. Of course, much of the answer depends on what you are advertising or selling. For example...

...it's not much good advertising your new stock of Christmas trees in the middle of Spring!

...And it might not be a good idea to advertise garden furniture just before the start of winter!

So you can see my point here. Obviously you have to use a little intelligence when deciding exactly when to advertise your business, but it is always a good thing to include a special offer to kick-start the campaign.

Another thing to consider is how exactly you want your advert production to sound. There are many ways to produce a good advert for your business. It could be funny, it could be dynamic and exciting, it could be deep-voice movie trailer type, it could be serious and stern, it could be laid-back and off the cuff, it could be male voice, it could be female... so don't let the radio station simply 'throw together' an advert that does absolutely nothing for your campaign.

The way to do it is to give them your ideas, let them go away, and then let them show you what they have come up with. Tell them you would like a few examples of possible advert productions so that you can choose the one for you.
